Is My Money Accessible? The Strategy Behind Fidelis’s Cash Management and Redemption Policy

Is My Money Accessible? The Strategy Behind Fidelis’s Cash Management and Redemption Policy
By John P. Lloyd, CEO, President & Co-founder

There is a specific feeling that every investor knows, though few discuss it openly. It isn’t just the fear of losing money; it is the anxiety of losing control. When you transfer capital into a private fund, there can be a concern that you have just locked your resources into a black box, inaccessible and out of reach indefinitely.

In the world of alternative investments, this concern is often valid. Many funds operate with lock-up periods that span five, seven, or even ten years. While that model works for equity development projects, it doesn’t align with every investor’s need for flexibility.

At Fidelis Private Fund, we view ourselves not just as asset managers, but as stewards of your capital. Stewardship means prioritizing capital preservation above all else, but it also means treating you like a partner, not a statistic. A crucial part of that partnership is ensuring you understand exactly how our liquidity mechanism works and how we balance yield with accessibility.

The Mechanics of “Natural Liquidity”

To understand how accessible your money is, you first have to understand the underlying asset. We are a fixed-income strategy, but we are not buying 30-year mortgages.

Fidelis specializes in short-term bridge financing. The loans we provide generally have terms ranging from 12 to 24 months. Because we have a diversified portfolio of these short-term loans, there is a constant cycle of loans paying off. This creates what we call “natural liquidity.”

Unlike a ground-up development fund that is cash-poor until a building is sold years down the line, our fund sees a continuous inflow of cash from borrowers paying off their principal. This natural churn allows us to facilitate redemptions without forcing the sale of an asset at an inopportune time.

The Operational Balance: Who Does What?

Transparency in operations is vital for trust. It is important to distinguish between decision-making and administration.

At Fidelis, we maintain strict control over the “gate.” We personally originate and underwrite every loan. We make the hard decisions on who qualifies for capital and who doesn’t, based on prudent risk assessment. However, to ensure efficiency and an added layer of professional oversight, the actual servicing of these loans—collecting payments and managing escrow—is handled by a trusted, top-tier third-party loan servicer.

This separation of duties ensures that while we act as the strategic “protector” of the portfolio, the day-to-day transaction management is executed with institutional-grade precision.

Understanding the Redemption Policy

So how does this translate to you getting your money when you need it?

We do not believe in locking investors into multi-year commitments without an exit ramp. Our policy is designed to be relationship-driven and fair. Our protocol is to request 45 days’ written notice for capital redemptions prior to the end of each calendar quarter, with funds typically disbursed by the 10th of the month following quarter-end, in line with our quarterly income distributions.

Why 45 days before the end of each calendar quarter? This isn’t a bureaucratic hurdle; it’s a stability mechanism. It allows us to manage the “natural liquidity” mentioned earlier, giving us time to forecast incoming loan payoffs and manage cash reserves so that paying out one investor doesn’t negatively impact the returns of the remaining partners. It also prevents the volatility associated with a “run on the bank” scenario, helping keep the fund stable for everyone.

What’s unique to Fidelis: when we have sufficient liquidity at the time of a redemption request, determined solely at management’s discretion, we often provide immediate liquidity with no wait period. This isn’t guaranteed, but in practice, it’s often the case.

A Relationship, Not a Transaction

Ultimately, liquidity is about trust. It’s about knowing that while we generate yield, we constantly monitor liquidity ratios to ensure we can meet our obligations to you.

We are not a faceless institution where you have to navigate a maze of support tickets to get an answer. We believe in radical accessibility.
